A solar cell can produce only about 0.5V of voltage, far less than what is needed for actual use. To meet the needs of practical applications, solar cells need to be connected into modules. A solar cell module comprises a number of solar cells connected by wires. For example, the number of solar cells in a module is 36, which means that a solar module can produce a voltage of about 17V. Necessary components of the entire solar power supply system:
The solar power generation system consists of solar cell module, solar controller and storage battery (group). If the output power supply is 220V or 110V, you need to configure an inverter. The roles of each part are:
(I) Solar cell modules: Solar cell modules are the core part of the solar power supply system and also the valuable part of the solar power supply system. Its role is to convert the sun’s radiation energy into electricity, or sent to storage batteries, or to promote the work of the load.
(2) Solar controller: the role of the solar controller is to control the working state of the whole system, and to play the role of over-charge protection and over-discharge protection of the battery. In the place where the temperature difference is large, the qualified controller should also have the function of temperature compensation. Additional functions such as light switches and time switches should be optional to the controller.
(3) Battery: generally lead-acid battery, small and miniature system, can also be nickel metal hydride battery, nickel cadmium battery or lithium battery. Its purpose is to store the power provided by the solar modules when the light is shining, and release it when it is needed.
(4) Inverter: In many occasions, it is necessary to provide 220VAC, 110VAC AC power supply. Because the direct output of solar energy is generally 12VDC, 24VDC, 48VDC. In order to provide electric energy for 220VAC appliances, it is necessary to convert the DC power supplied by the solar power system into AC power, so a DC-AC inverter is needed. The DC-DC inverter is also used in some situations where multiple voltage loads are required, such as converting 24VDC power to 5VDC power (note, not simple step-down).
